Moisturizers
The final touch
Scientists agree: our skin is primarily made up of collagen, elastin and approximately 30% moisture-retention elements, which over time have come to be known as the skin’s natural moisturizing factors (NMFs). This significant percentage of undetermined elements prompted our research team to further investigate these factors in the formation and production of moisture in the skin and their composition. The primary role of the NMFs, namely the hydrophilic (water-absorbing) substances and lightly hygroscopic (moisture-absorbing) substances, is to hydrate the outermost layers of the skin, specifically the epidermis. Over time, scientists have discovered that the epidermis plays a greater role than previously thought in the absorption and retention of moisture.
Moisturizing the surface of the skin is an essential part of any skin care routine, as a youthful-looking epidermis reflects an image of vitality and health.
Our surface moisturizers are light, creamy and packed with emollients and valuable nutrients, designed to work with the skin’s natural moisturizing factors (NMFs) to give your skin that sought-after softness and smoothness.
Through its comprehensive research, our laboratory has been able to accurately identify, classify and analyze the various kinds of natural moisturizing factors (NMFs) that exist. When our team combined specific synthetic ingredients with certain plant extracts in an intricate chemical process, it succeeded in reproducing the moisture-replenishing and calibrating properties of NMFs with such accuracy, they created the next best thing to the skin itself: Clayton Shagal’s hydrocomplex.
Our hydrocomplex operates essentially within the deeper epidermal layers. Its action is twofold: it absorbs moisture from the air and maintains the optimum level of moisture in the skin. Our hydrocomplex is soluble in oil and fat substances, making it compatible with creams. Our laboratory elected to incorporate the hydrocomplex into some of our surface moisturizers because it is capable of dissociating effectively from the cream and filtering through the stratum corneum of the epidermis. Our surface moisturizers were also formulated to be nonocclusive, which gives the skin’s pores a chance to breathe properly.
