Fundamentals
Understanding and respecting the skin’s structure and inherent hydration properties is the cornerstone of La Maison Clayton Shagal’s innovative philosophy, ongoing development and research over the years. Clayton Shagal’s skin care line represents nearly 40 years of scientific research to design and develop the most efficient product line that address the three fundamental steps for healthy, smooth, supple skin: cleansing and preparing the skin (exfoliating), nourishing deep within the skin’s tissue and locking in moisture.
Emphasizing simplicity and effectiveness, Clayton Shagal’s line of high-end skin care products was developed with the intent of understanding and working with the skin’s natural regenerating process. Since the early 1980s, La Maison Clayton Shagal has followed the premise that the true essence of skin care is based on respecting the skin’s natural major components: collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid and water. Our ongoing research and development projects seek ways of effectively treating and compensating for the natural loss of these priceless components.
With this goal in mind, Clayton Shagal’s specialized skin care products address the skin care needs of both younger and mature skin in men and women alike.
Close your eyes and imagine a texture that is healthy, smooth, soft, endowed with exquisite suppleness, a delicate and resilient texture, truly a garment of natural distinction. Add the fact that it’s form-fitting, washable and waterproof; a fabric so remarkable it mends its own burns and tears, plus it comes with a lifetime warranty! Sounds enticing? This priceless garment is your skin!
Skin is our self-defining exterior shell. Knowing what this outer layer is composed of and how it works helps maintain a balanced skin health condition. Proper, regular care and nurturing help to enhance and extend the skin’s glow, natural beauty and resilience.
The laws of nature cannot be defied: skin will age over time. Aging is an active process that brings about changes in the whole body. The aging of skin is defined as the decline or degeneration of cellular functions and structures. In addition to the genetically programmed aging process, external factors (free radicals) such as sun exposure, light, wind, pollution, diet, stress, smoking and fatigue, cause further degenerative changes in the skin’s structure-function relationships.
Herein lies the difference between biological and premature aging! Our extensive research clearly shows that both processes are intricately interwoven and equally important in the quest to formulate effective beauty products that truly nurture human skin.
The most serious threat to aging skin is the loss of moisturizers deep within the skin that contribute to the regeneration process.
In the early 1980s, Clayton Shagal’s research team discovered a unique extraction method that provides the skin with macromolecular collagen and elastin proteins to regenerate human tissues. What’s more, these proteins can be transferred into the skin without the use of injections. In pioneering the extraction of macromolecular proteins and their transfer into human skin, La Maison Clayton Shagal laboratory allowed science to take
a giant step forward in cosmetology, specifically in the field of skin hydration and skin care product development.
We wanted to find a way to moisturize and boost cell activity in vulnerable parts of the skin, such as the eye area, lips and neck, without neglecting the rest of the face, all in one step.
Thanks to an exclusive macromolecular protein-based formula, our products can enhance the penetration of beneficial ingredients deep into the skin to defy the aging process. Each product is designed to be used alone or with other ingredients to nurture connective tissues and stimulate healthy cell activity.
Soft, resilient, youthful-looking skin means well-hydrated skin, not necessarily deeply hydrated skin. The degree of skin hydration required is determined by each individual’s secretion level, which may vary considerably from one person to another and from one season to another.
However, the skin’s resilience will be short-lived with the sole use of creams, which cannot provide the deep moisture that the dermis needs. While this surface-level action is necessary and even essential, it is not enough to keep skin supple and resilient.
Through hydration, the skin’s moisture (water) content is restored. The effects of hydration are felt either at the surface level or deep within the dermis level, while the hydrating properties of creams act on the epidermis. The catch, however, is that the lubricants in creams act as guards or shields for the epidermis against all types of free radicals, preventing even moisturizers from reaching the dermis. As a result, the dermis is neglected, making it vulnerable to aging. Treating both the dermis and the epidermis is essential, which is why Clayton Shagal’s line of products includes gels and liquid concentrates that penetrate the skin’s protective barriers to nourish the dermis, as well as creams designed to care for the specific needs of the epidermis.
Healthy and supple skin is ideally maintained by using products formulated to act on both the epidermis and the dermis. For the epidermis, the skin needs a hydrating cream that both moisturizes and serves as a shield from external irritants. For the dermis, gels and extracts are ideal because they are not inhibited by the protective barrier formed by creams, thus making these types of products better for deep moisturizing. All of our in-depth and surface moisturizers are conceived as day and night products, to address both general and specific issues in the most vulnerable areas of the skin, such as around the eyes, the mouth and the neck. Clayton Shagal’s products are suitable for all skin types, regardless of age or gender.
Although the fountain of youth has yet to be found, La Maison Clayton Shagal has made great strides in helping the skin maintain its essential functions to repair and nourish the skin. At La Maison Clayton Shagal, we are proud to have invested in researching and testing the quality of each product, defining its purpose and demonstrating how a simple, homogenous, state-of-the-art product line can and does achieve, without any doubts, optimum results.
It’s a concrete way of paying tribute to something truly remarkable: your skin.
